Jonathan Filewich was born in Kelowna, BC, raised in Sherwood Park, AB, and has called Souris, Manitoba home for over two decades with his wife, Lindsay, and two boys. His love for hockey and education developed side by side, and both have defined his career in remarkable ways.

Jonathan played professionally for six years, collecting some incredible highlights along the way — including playing his first NHL game against Alex Ovechkin, winning the fastest skater competition at the AHL All-Star Game, and representing Team Canada where he earned MVP honours. His skates from that tournament are displayed in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

After his playing career, Jonathan channelled that same drive into education, completing four degrees at Brandon University — a Bachelor of Physical Education Studies, a Bachelor of Education, and two Master of Education degrees specializing in Administration and Leadership and Curriculum and Pedagogy.

At WCHA, Jonathan brings a rare combination of professional athletic experience and deep educational expertise to his role as a classroom teacher. He believes the same commitment, culture, and character that make great hockey players make great people — and that the classroom and the rink have more in common than most think.
