Riley grew up playing Hockey in Winnipeg and finished his playing career at the University of Manitoba, where he obtained a BA in psychology. He spent the first five years after his playing days, as an assistant coach as well as strength and conditioning coach with the uofm mens hockey team, while simultaneously starting Evolution Hockey – a licensed Hockey Canada skill development program
Riley strives to continue his education and has become a certified Hockey Canada skills coach, High Performance 1 coach, and a certified mental game coaching professional. He is the founder of Evolution Hockey and manages the research and coach development, educating players and coaches on the progressive nuances of the game. Riley currently consults and trains many of Manitoba’s elite amateur, professional and NHL players, working on their individual game and mindset, through video, private and semi private on ice sessions.
Riley has delivered presentations and consulted with numerous Hockey associations including: Hockey Canada, IIHF, Ontario Hockey federation, Hockey Manitoba, Hockey Winnipeg and Hockey Alberta, primarily geared towards helping coaches progress their learning about the details of the game.
Within the last few years, Riley has worked in the hockey operations side of Hockey by scouting for the USHL’s Chicago Steel and serving as the Director of Player Personnel for the MJHL’s Winkler Flyers.
