Mark Derlago, hailing from Brandon, Manitoba, began his hockey journey in his hometown, playing minor hockey until the age of 16. He joined the Brandon Wheat Kings at 17 and quickly made his mark on the team. In his final season with the Wheat Kings in 2006-07, Mark was named team captain and led the WHL in goals, showcasing his scoring prowess. Following his junior career, he embarked on a successful 12-year professional career, spending four years between the ECHL and AHL before taking his talents overseas. Mark played eight years abroad in countries like Germany, South Korea, Denmark, Japan, and England, gaining international experience and further honing his skills.
After retiring from professional play, Mark returned to his roots, joining the Brandon Wheat Kings coaching staff for the 2019-2020 season. He is now entering his sixth season as a coach, where he has made a significant impact on the development of young players. In addition to his role with the Wheat Kings, Mark has been an on-ice skills coach with the Western Canada Hockey Academy (WCHA) since its inception in Brandon. Mark’s passion for hockey extends beyond his professional career, as his wife Jenna, daughter Emery (10), and son Finn (7) are all actively involved in the hockey community in Brandon, continuing the family’s deep connection to the sport.
