Colby’s journey in hockey began at the age of three, when he first laced up his skates in Gilbert Plains. From that moment on his passion for the game only grew stronger, eventually leading him to play for the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Western Hockey League. Colby’s dedication and skill earned him a gold medal with the U18 Canada team, showcasing his relentless drive and passion for the game.
In 2008, Colby reached a significant milestone in his career when he was drafted by the Florida Panthers. This marked the beginning of an impressive professional journey across North America, where he played in both the AHL and NHL with teams like the Florida Panthers, San Antonio Rampage, Rochester Americans, Utica Comets, Anaheim Ducks, Calgary Flames and Stockton Heat. Colby’s career wasn’t limited to North America; in his final three years, he ventured to Europe, playing in Finland and Germany, where he further refined his game and broadened his experience.
After retiring from professional hockey in 2022, Colby returned to Brandon, where he now resides with his wife, Colleen, and their three children, Cayson, Caylyx, and Cayde. As they settle into this new chapter, Colby is excited to plant roots in the community and give back to the sport that has given him so much. He is committed to helping young hockey players grow and develop, sharing his knowledge and passion to inspire the next generation of talent.
